Rebecca Catherine Saunders, 27, was handed an month conditional sentence with house arrest on July 31, , after changing her plea to guilty to aggravated assault. A charge of using, or threatening to use, a knife in committing an assault was dismissed. Saunders committed the offence in Halifax Feb. Saunders was in Kentville provincial court for a breach allegation hearing July 25, where she admitted to breaching three conditions in Kentville July These included failing to keep the peace and to be of good behaviour; associating with or being in the company of a person known to her to have a criminal record; and failing to remain in her residence at all times with certain exceptions.
Judge Paul Scovil terminated her conditional sentence and ordered her to spend the remaining time, days, in custody. The woman, who had identified herself as Rebecca, claimed to be an escort from Halifax who was broke and needed money. The woman told the man she would perform oral sex and other sexual favours in exchange for cash. The man declined her services as she entered his car. The two drove away, heading downtown. As they drove toward the police station, the woman asked if he was taking her to the police, which he indicated he was.
The woman had him stop the vehicle and she got out. The man proceeded to report the incident. The man is known to have a criminal record.
The next day, police went to her apartment and listened at the door. An officer could hear a man and woman inside and recognized their voices. Police knocked on the door and the man answered. The police told the man that they knew Saunders was inside. The officer advised the man to think about things and tell Saunders to come to the door. About two minutes later, Saunders came to the door and locked the deadbolt.
She told the police officer she was going to turn herself in the next day. The police told Saunders she had breached her conditional sentence and was going to be arrested. This isn't the first time Saunders breached her conditional sentence order. Other breaches included:. She failed to comply with a condition not to take or consume alcohol or other intoxicating substances. Saunders had failed to remain in her residence at all times.
